Sarah J. Vinson

June 13, 1919  –  September 11, 2017

Sarah Jones Vinson, daughter of the late Edward Green and Lillian Ada Faulk, was born June 13, 1919, in Robeson County, Lumberton, North Carolina. She departed her life on Monday, September 11, 2017, at the age of “98”.  She was known as “Ganny” to most as some of her grandkids couldn’t pronounce “Granny”. She loved the name as she thought it made her special.

Sarah worked and played hard in her younger days. During her lifetime, she worked in a factory, an elevator operator and she did domestic work until she retired.  She worked for some well to do families to include writer and editor Robert Gottlieb and the Eristoff family. Through the Gottlieb’s she met the late Fred Gwynn (Herman Munster), Audrey Hepburn, and Patricia Neal. She was married and widowed three times. She was a member of St Luke Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed being a member of the Seasoned Saints.

Sarah LOVED to shop. She enjoyed having nice clothes and is well known for being “well put together”. She also loved having a nice home. She was an innovator in having a metallic stencil on her walls that looked like wallpaper. Her bathrooms were very special to her. They were always color coordinated and she always had “special” towels that you dared not use as they were for looking at only! She was also known for her elaborate Christmas decorations (as Christmas was her favorite holiday).

Sarah did a lot of traveling. She went to Hawaii (which was her favorite place), Las Vegas, California, Florida and a cross-country car trip.

Most of all, Sarah loved her family.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Ella Artis of Charlotte, North Carolina (her daughter). Five Grandchildren: Toni Love (Mannie) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Randy Harris (Bettie) of Stafford, Virginia; Robin Martin of Kannapolis, North Carolina; Tracy Artis of Charlotte, North Carolina; Reginald Dock of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Nine Great Grandchildren: Melissa Love of Charlotte, North Carolina; Christopher Harris of Kansas City, Missouri; Mannie Love III (Malinda) of Durham, North Carolina; Samantha Underwood (Philip) of Stafford, Virginia; Michael Martin Jr of Charlotte, North Carolina; Jacqueline Harris of Stafford, Virginia; Lisa Martin of Charlotte, North Carolina; Asia Artis of Charlotte, North Carolina; Kalynn Hooper of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Eight Great Great Grandchildren: Jacinto Martinez, Isaiah Underwood, Malik Martin, Tiara Underwood, Malaki Carter, Desarai Martin, Elijah Bolton, and Josiah Underwood.

Three Nephews: Johnny McKay (Shirley) of Rialto, California; Reggie White of California and George Greene of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Three Nieces: Joyce Swinson (Randall) of Ft Washington, Maryland; Linda Standifer (Keith) of Covington, Georgia; and Roberta Fisher of Atlanta, Georgia.  And a host of Great Nieces and Great Nephews.
