Rebecca Diane Phillips

March 30, 1952 – December 23, 2020

Rebecca Diane Phillips passed away peacefully Wednesday, the 23rd of December, 2020, surrounded by her children and loved ones.

As she was affectionately known, Diane was born on the 30th of March, 1952, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She grew up and lived in Charlotte her whole life and raised her children here. After graduating from Garinger High School in 1970, she went on to work as a secretary at Newco Fibre Company for 33 years. She also worked as a traffic clerk at Syncot Plastics, Inc, and then later worked in customer service at Walmart. She retired in 2017.

Diane was a caring and warmhearted person who found joy in making others happy. One of the ways she showed her love was through her cooking. She was a selfless person with a kind and gentle soul, and she saw the good in everyone. She always remained optimistic, even when faced with her own health challenges; she took everything that came her way one day at a time. She was a compassionate, hardworking, loving mother, wife, and grandmother who dedicated her whole life to taking care of her family and loved them all very much. Her smile, kindness, and love will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

Diane was a member of the University City Fellowship, where she was involved in the children’s ministry.

Diane loved all things animals and spoiled her Chihuahua, Smokie, who was always by her side. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like sitting outside in the warm weather, tending to her garden, and drinking her coffee in the early mornings where she would admire the hummingbirds and watch the bunnies hop around the backyard.

Diane is preceded in death by her husband, James Phillips Sr. She was a loving and devoted wife, and they shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her parents Henry and Nancy Eddins, and brother Timothy Eddins.

She is survived by her four children: Kristie Hunnicutt, husband George of Indian Trail, NC; Misti Canales, husband Nick of Harrisburg, NC; J.P. Phillips, wife Amanda of Charlotte; NC; and Jessica Phillips of Charlotte, NC; her seven grandchildren: Riley, Molly, and Samuel Hunnicutt; Baylee and Braylon Canales; Evan, and Emari Kessler. She is also survived by her siblings: Henry Eddins Jr, Rose Bradley, and Iris Connell.

The Phillips family will greet friends at a visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, the 29th of December, 2020 at Ellington Funeral Services. A funeral service to honor Diane’s life will be held on Wednesday, the 30th of December, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Historic Morehead Street Chapel of Ellington Funeral Services at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations online to the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, or mail to P.O. Box 1484 Indian Trail, NC 28079, or email to donations@cwrescue.org.
