Patricia Ann Bell

November 14, 1928 – January 16, 2020

Patricia Bell, 91, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on the 16th of January, 2020, at her daughter’s home. Pat was born in Pekin, IL to Eunice Kumpf and Earl Beetler. She was preceded in death by her siblings, June Beetler Stambach and Bud Beetler.

Pat graduated from the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, IL in 1946. Pat met Bobby Bell that summer at a swimming pool.  When he told her that he’d sure like to take her out, but he didn’t have any money, Pat said, “You don’t need money to take me out.” He borrowed cash from his dad and they went to the movies. They dated six weeks before Bobby enlisted in the army and then they married in November 1948.

Pat and Bob lived in Peoria, IL where Maatia Magdalena and Bridgett Bell Langson (Seth) were born. Their other two daughters, Barbara Bell Hinson (Louis) and Suzanne Bell Rankin (Daniel) were born in Louisville, KY. Then Bobby was transferred with his job as an industrial engineer, first to Chicago, then on to St. Louis, Richmond, VA, and finally Warren, OH.

During those years, Pat was active in the Catholic Church and an enthusiastic leader in Girl Scouts. She enjoyed the many times she spent camping with her family.

Sadly, Bobby Bell died in 1982 after 33 years of marriage. Afterward, Pat moved to Charlotte, NC where three of her daughters lived. She made many friends in Charlotte through both water exercise classes at the Harris YMCA and through belonging to St. Gabriel’s parish and also being involved in St. Matthews’s parish. In her later years, Pat was delighted to travel to Ireland, Germany, and Italy.

Her grandchildren (Chel Ewing (Todd), Jared Langson, Eli Langson, Dayna Hinson (David), Ben Hinson, Andrew Hinson (Glorianna), Julia Rankin Harrison (Jeff), Patrick Rankin (Leah), Rachel Ann Rankin and ten great-grandchildren complete the circle of love of Pat’s family.

Pat was a loving, kind, fun lady who had open arms and a hug for everyone. Pat is remembered for the twinkle in her eyes and her mischievous smile. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Charlotte, NC on Wednesday the 22nd of January, 2020 from 2 PM to 3 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3 PM at the church. Burial to be at Sharon Memorial Park, following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations for St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, attn. St. Vincent de Paul Society, or Catherine’s House, Belmont, NC.

You shared 91 years of loving, caring, laughing, sorrow, joy and deep seated faith with family and friends and though we all will miss you dearly, it is your time to rest in peace in the palm of God’s hands.

I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. It’s been a long time since we had seen her but I always enjoyed getting her Christmas cards with the updates on all of her family. Hers was always the first Christmas card I received. She’s now in heaven with with Aunt Marcella and Uncle Burnel. My mother always spoke so fondly of her. Our prayers are with all of your family.
