Margaret Anne Brown Bennett, age 100, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017, at Pineville Rehab and Living Center in Pineville, NC. She was the widow of Harry Lawrence Bennett.
Born in Laurens County on December 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John Raphy and Bijah Lou Davenport Brown. Margaret lived life to the fullest. In the 40’s and 50’s, she hosted many radio shows and was best known as “Aunt Margaret” on WESC’s Tiny Tot Time. She later started Piedmont Marketing, which she operated until her retirement. She served as past president of the Gridley Club, the Woman’s Club, and the Fireman’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Northgate Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Lou Anne Cox, and husband, Jim, of Greenville; son, Harry Bennett, Jr., and wife, Mary, of Greenville; five grandchildren, Bennett, Cleve, Jake, Andrea, and Jennifer; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary, and three brothers, Louis, Winston, and Ray.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the home of Harry Bennett, Jr., Riverbend Condominiums, 925 Cleveland Street, #279, Greenville, SC 29601 following the service.
