Larry Lee Lankford

February 11, 1957 – August 30, 2017

Larry Lee Lankford, 60, of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, the 30th 2017 with his family by his side at Levine & Dickson Hospice House – Huntersville.  He was born the youngest of five children to the late Arvel Robert Lankford and Mildred Ann Helms Lankford.  He served as owner and President of Lankford Paint which his father began in 1933.  A large man in stature, but had the heart of a marsh mellow.  He loved life, always a prankster and had a nickname for everyone.  A lover of art and music – Larry played the drums in a band which the band was never formally named.  The members called themselves according to whatever day it was or how the weather was.  He was accomplished in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.  He loved animals, to travel, scuba diving but above all, he loved his family.  There will be a private gathering to remember and celebrate his life by the family. He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Lynn “Wootie” Lankford of Matthews, NC; his two daughters: Melissa “ Thistle” Lankford Croom and husband, Josh of Greenville, NC; Kelli “Rat” Lankford Dukes and husband, Jared “J-Rod”,  of Mint Hill, NC; three grandchildren: William “Wild Man” Croom, Nora “Nora Gray” Croom and Austin “Mr. Wonderful” Lee Dukes; three sisters and a brother: Penny Lankford, Eleanor Thompson, Robert Lankford and Robin Carr and last but not least his beloved Chihuahua, Polly Lankford.  Memorials may be made to PETA or a local American Cancer Society and Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region.   Notes of encouragement and condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.ellingtonfuneralservices.com.
