Kimberly Ruthanne Kennedy, 49, of Mint Hill, NC passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
She was born in Charlotte, NC on April 4, 1968, one of two children to Jerry R. Kennedy and Dianne Funderburk Kennedy. Kim graduated Independence High School and earned her associate’s degree at King’s College in Charlotte. As a child, she attended Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Matthews, where she was baptized by her grandfather, the Reverend Lawrence Funderburk, longtime pastor of the church. Since 1997 Kim served as a Deputy and later Assistant Clerk of Court in Mecklenburg County. She cherished her friendships with her colleagues in the Clerk’s Office as well as the many attorneys, judges, and law enforcement officers at the courthouse. Kim was well-loved and appreciated by all for her easygoing demeanor and sense of humor.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 115 W. 7th St., Charlotte. A reception will follow the service at the church.
Kimberly is survived by her son, Derrick Goff, of New York, NY; her parents, Jerry and Dianne Kennedy, of Mint Hill, NC; a brother, Kevin Kennedy, of Charlotte, NC; her companion, Kevin Barnett, of Charlotte, NC and an uncle and aunt, Charles and Mary Evelyn Funderburk, of Ocean Isle, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Choir School at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 115 W. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28202.
