Julie Brooks

January 5th, 1962 – September 30th, 2019

Julie Cheryl (Jones) Brooks, 57, of Charlotte, NC  passed away  Monday, the 30th of September 2019 at Novant Health – Matthews surrounded by her family.  She was born the 5th of January 1962 in Charlotte NC to Beverly Schenck Jones of Manchester, CT and John C. Jones of Peachland, NC.  Julie attended Independence High School in Charlotte, NC and graduated in Clearwater, Florida, where she lived many years of her life.

Julie once met and had a conversation with Maya Angelou, who inspired Julie to show compassion and understanding to others. Julie saw the best in all people and gave to so many she encountered throughout her life. Julie’s understanding of hardships allowed her heart and home to always be open to others. She helped many families by offering shelter, food, clothes, comfort, and compassion. Her house was once so full, there was simply no room for anyone else to sleep. Yet, when a struggling married couple needed a place to live, instead of turning them away, Julie pitched up a tent in her back yard for them at night and offered them the use of the amenities of her home. Julie never turned people away in need. She will always be remembered by those families and friends, along with her last longtime partner, John Seabolt. Julie loved life, the beach, and most of all she loved doing for others. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and many memories to cherish forever. Julie is survived and forever remembered by her 3 children, 5 grandchildren, two brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends she chose as family.

Survivors include: daughter, Bonnie Wathey; son, Dylan Brooks; son, Mick Brooks his wife, Emerald; brothers: Jeffrey Jones his wife, Yomaira; and Steven Jones his wife, Barbara; her loving sister and BEST FRIEND, Debbie Furr her husband, Tim; her beloved Aunt Valerie Tanner; cousin Heather Tanner; and her niece (adopted daughter) Sallie Le and her husband, Tuan.  Julie was preceded in death by both parents, her brother John C. Jones Jr, and her dear cousin Darren Tanner.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, the 5th of October 2019 at Ellington Funeral Services.  A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM in the Historic Morehead Street Chapel at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.

The family would like to acknowledge the care Julie received by so many. Her sister Debbie her husband, Tim made so many sacrifices in honor of Julie and the Hospice Caregivers at Novant in Matthews NC showed Julie love, compassion and made her comfortable in her final days.

Memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice – Matthews, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC  28233.

I am so sorry to read of the death of someone so beautiful at heart. She will never be forgotten by all who knew and loved her. To her children, please know that God and his son Jesus does care for you, at this difficult time. There is life after death. There is light at the end of this dark tunnel. If you believe in the Bible, it says that one day we will see our loved ones again who have fallen asleep in death. Please read Jesus words at (John 5:27-29), it truly is comforting.

Dear Bonnie,

I am so sorry for your loss. You look so much like your momma, which is definitely a compliment, she was beautiful on the inside and out, just like you.

The world is much different now without my momma. She was the most beautiful person inside and out. Thank you to everyone who left a comment on here and thank you to those who attended her services and provided so much to me, my momma, and my family. I am eternally grateful to all of you. I am eternally grateful to have had such a loving mother who always made me feel loved. Thank you to Derek Hunter and everyone with the Ellington Funeral home for all of your hard work and making this difficult time less stressful for all that you did for us! My momma would have been proud to know she and her family were taken such good care of. I will forever cherish and love my momma and the memories we shared. Until we meet again.
