August 20, 1930 – January 2, 2021
Jane Rogers Davis, 90, passed away on the 2nd of January, 2021, at Clare Bridge of The Carriage Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jane was the first of two children born to James Lanham Rogers and Montine Rogers of Augusta, Georgia. She graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Journalism and became the first Women’s Page Editor of the Charlotte Observer. She met her future husband, Lou, through mutual friends, and they were married on the 12th of July, 1958, and lived together in Charlotte until Lou’s death in February of 2012.
Jane was a talented artist, avid gardener, exceptional cook, voracious reader, and a fierce competitor. She did not hesitate to throw the chessboard if she got close to checkmate, and she loved the No Trumps bridge group at Carmel Country Club. She danced a mean Charleston and jitterbug. She never missed a party or the opportunity to throw one. She loved long walks on Sunset Beach with her family and friends and her favorite dog, Spense. Her bag was always packed, and she was blessed with a large group of friends.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Louis McAlester Davis, and her brother, Jimmy Rogers.
She is survived by her children: James Lawson Davis (Lynn) of Charlotte, NC, and Anne Davis Hamilton (Peyton) of Monroe, NC; four grandchildren: Leah Davis Benfield (Danner) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Mac Hamilton, Eve Davis and Vic Davis all of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her nieces: Mary Katherine Rogers Dean (Alan) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Lee Rogers Moore (Richard) of Charleston, SC.
The family will have a private interment in the Memorial Garden at Trinity Presbyterian Church, where Jane and Lou were active members and elders.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to KinderMourn of Charlotte, 1320 Harding Place, Charlotte, North Carolina 28204.
