Ila Imogene “Jean” Tucker Burris, a long-time resident of Charlotte, NC, passed away Friday, the 19th of July, 2019 at 7:58 PM.

Jean as she was affectionately known, was born in Albemarle, NC to Carl Tucker and Elizabeth Smith Tucker. She was the middle of five children; four girls and one boy. Jean was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte where she sang in the choir. In her youth, she taught and played piano primarily for her church events and family gatherings. She professed her faith in Christ at a young age and tried to live her life for him to the best of her ability.

She worked for Overnite Transportation Company for 30 years as an Executive Secretary and Interior Designer and retired as their Sales Associate. She was a member of the National Secretaries Association for several years with one of those serving as President. During her membership, she was elected secretary of the year.

She loved dancing, music, entertaining others, gardening, and decorating her home. She especially loved traveling and went on several cruises to different countries, where she met many new friends. She loved family gatherings, especially at Christmas time.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, parents Carl and Elizabeth, H. Ramell Tucker, B. James Tucker, and Joyce Ingold.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Cynthia Lipsey (Pahjmon), of Kingwood Texas; and Christina Goble (David) of Monroe, North Carolina; her sister, Phoebe Fenters of McDonough  Georgia; 4 grandchildren, 3 nieces, and 2 nephews.

She was loved deeply and will be missed by many. Rest in peace sweet Mamma, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.

A service to celebrate the life of Jean Burris will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, the 26th of July 2019 from the graveside of Sharon Memorial Park with The Reverend Wilmar Wegner officiating.

My Thoughts are with the family. I hope you can find comfort where I too have found in the past, 2 Cor. 1:4 “Who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trail with the comfort that we receive from God.”
