Emerald Dawn McMillan

August 4,ย  1974 – February 8, 2020

Ms. Emerald Dawn McMillan, age 45, of Pineville, departed this life peacefully on February 8th, 2020, at Atrium Health, surrounded by her loving sisters, and family.

Emerald Dawn was born on August 4th, 1974 in Wilkesboro N.C. She is the eldest of three daughters, born to her late mother Mrs. Carrie Etta McMillian Carter. She was preceded in death by her loving mother Mrs. Carrie Etta McMillian Carter.

Emerald was an avid animal lover all her life. Emerald grew up on a farm until she was around 11 years old. There were several animals on the farm and Emerald enjoyed playing with the cats and feeding the animals. After Emerald grew up and went out on her own, she had 2 ferrets, a cat named Simba and a dog named Tyson that she absolutely adored. What Emerald cherished the most, and considered to be her world, was her animals.

Emerald enjoyed playing dress-up. She would put on her mom’s shoes, her grandmother’s pearl necklaces and hats and dance around the house. Emerald’s love for dance, prompted her grandmother to enroll her in dance lessons as a young child. Emerald took dance instruction from Canipe School of Dance, where she participated in Tap and Ballet for several years.

Emerald graduated from Wilkes Central High School as a part of the graduating class of 1992.

During this time, Emerald worked after school, as a bank teller for State Employees Credit Union.

A few years after graduation, Emerald’s free spirit carried her away from Wilkes, and she built her life in Greensboro, High Point, Myrtle Beach, and Charlotte. Emerald had the ability to make friends with just about anyone. She will forever be remembered among her friends as someone who could always bring a smile to their faces, and she was just simply a good friend. She shared these qualities with both the patients and fellow coworkers at Atrium Health & Levine Children’s Hospital where she worked as a member of the patient dining services team.

Emerald leaves to mourn her loss: two sisters, Kalisha Leaigh Henderson and husband Johnnie Henderson of Henderson and Christian Lynette Carter of Wilkesboro. Her Stepbrother Dameron Carter of Wilkesboro N.C. Her Stepfather Michael Carter of Wilkesboro. Her Aunt and close friend Benita Dowell- Carter of Charlotte. Two Nieces KaMya Henderson, and Kadience Henderson. Three Nephews Johnathan Henderson, Jeremiah Cannaday, and Zechariah Cannaday. She was adored and will be truly missed by a host of cousins and friends. During the last few years of Emerald’s life, it was her deepest desire to be reunited with her mother Carrie. We take comfort in knowing that Emerald is now reunited with her mother, and her soul is at peace.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Emerald and viewing will be held at 2:00 PM in the Historic Morehead Street Chapel of Ellington Funeral Services, Saturday, the 15th of February, 2020.
