Barbara and I were friends from childhood. I remember well when her mother died in a fire at their home. When we attended Queens College, we became very close friends–often making grilled cheese sandwiches at the home she and Patsy shared with their aunt and uncle. We spent nights together at each other’s homes. She, Dina Battle, Janet Rhodes, Christine Gaines and I shared a carpool when we were day students at Queens. I was in her wedding, and she assisted at my wedding reception. The last time I saw her was in their home when their boys were young because I moved away from Charlotte. I did return for Central and Queens reunions, but Barbara was unable to attend these; yet she furnished flowers for them. As I read her obituary, many memories filled my heart and mind, and tears are ready to be shed. I thank God for our very close friendship of years gone by.
