January 13, 1946 – April 16, 2018
Barbara Lou Kessler passed away Monday morning, the 16th of April 2018, at her residence. She was born the 13th of January 1946 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She graduated from St. Albans High School in West Virginia and later Trocaire College in Buffalo, New York where she obtained her degree in Nursing. Barbara was a cosmetologist early in her career and later retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections where she served as a registered nurse for nearly 5 years. Barbara was most proud of the work she carried out as a nurse, vehemently proud of her sons and their children and loved her animals with a passion.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, the 26th of May 2018 at Ellington Funeral Services, 727 E Morehead St, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at Pure Pizza, 1911 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
Barbara is survived by her son, Carey Riel and fiancé Jaynie VanGilder of Germantown, MD; her son, Ken Riel and husband Steve Heinecke of Charlotte, NC; her biological daughter, Kelli Cornett of Long Beach, CA; her brother, Butch Kessler of Savannah, GA; her grandchildren: Austin Riel, Avery Riel, Charles Heinecke-Riel, Olive Heinecke-Riel, Miranda and Beau VanGilder; her niece, Misti Kessler and nephews: Brock Jones and Cole Kessler.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that assisted her in her final years and appreciates all the love and support from many friends and family.
