May 23, 1929 – December 12, 2019
Arthur M Lage passed away on the 12th of December, 2019, at the age of 90. Arthur was born of Greek heritage. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY and spent all but his last several years living and working in New York and Connecticut. Late in his life, he relocated to Charlotte, NC. Arthur was a well-educated, well-traveled, and loquacious man who learned to speak several “second” languages including Greek, Spanish, Arabic, and French. He was an avid storyteller about life in and around New York. When engaging him in conversation, one would do well not to be in a hurry. He was entertaining in his tales. He was a student of history and gourmet food and was a Brooklyn Dodgers baseball fan.
Arthur was accepted into med school after college but decided to pursue another vocational path. That was the foodservice industry. Arthur, working and excelling for many years in that industry, decided to retire to explore the world with new experiences, cultures, and sites to see. He had a particular fascination and interest in Egypt and Egyptology.
He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Martha Lagakos, two brothers (George and Dean) and three sisters (Tina, Patricia, and Dorothea). He is survived by ten nieces and nephews (Barbara, Martha, Patti, Connie, Cathy, Milton, Irene, Charles, Dean, and Christina). Interment will be the Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, the 17th of December 2019 at Saint Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, NY; or St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church (Missions Ministry), Charlotte, NC; or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Philoptochos Society, Charlotte, NC.
