Anastasios Kroustalis

September 2, 1982 – July 26, 2020

Anastasios Kroustalis, 37, of Matthews, NC, passed away on Sunday, the 26th of July, 2020.

He was born on the 2nd of September, 1982 in Greece to Athanasia “Nancy” and Ioannis “John” Kroustalis.  The family immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, where he was educated and finished college.  While in New York, he worked in the family business until moving to Charlotte, North Carolina working in the banking industry.

It was always his dream to open his own Greek-American Restaurant.  His dream came true and opened Rethi Greek Kouzina, even during the pandemic, and was well received by the community, in the downtown heart of Waxhaw, NC.

Due to the pandemic, private services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Anastasios will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery to await the coming of Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, North Carolina 28203.

We moved to Waxhaw from LI two years ago and were so excited to have an authentic Greek restaurant come. Stas was so welcoming and treated us like family. We are praying for comfort for you during this time. It was a pleasure to get to know him and we will cherish the brief time we had becoming friends!

Hi Nancy hi john,
You probably don’t know me but I knew your son Anastasio back In 2014-2015 when we attended CUNY. I lost touch with him after he moved to NC and wasn’t sure if he changed his phone number. I m so heart broken to stumble across his name online and finding out about his passing. My sincere condolences to you too. I want you to know that he was good hearted, kind and funny Human being. I have a few great memories of him and i and other mutual college mates of ours. He always spoke highly of you two and how much he loved you both. He used to be my mentor and motivated me to always go after my goals and dreams and never give up. I can’t believe he’s gone but he will never be forgotten. No one can forget Anastasio’s name and presence. You are in my prayers and I wish you find closure in your hearts. God bless you both.

My whole heart goes out to you and your family. You came such a long way since we met. Speaking of which, I remember the first time we met and within minutes, you gave me a huge bear hug in the middle of the work floor at Wells- only after sharing a quick laugh and when you found out that I too was from NY. (It’s just who you were!) You wore your heart on your sleeve. I really feel like I understood you and I wish we had more time. All you wanted was to make people around you happy and if you couldn’t do that- you made them laugh instead. You and your positive energy will be missed greatly. In your last days, you seemed to have turned a corner in life and things were really coming together for you. You glowed w success in your final days and I couldn’t have been more proud to see it all unfold. (While you got your business off the ground) I couldn’t have been happier seeing how proud you were as you made it all happen. You smiled ear to ear just explaining the menu to me (for the 50th time with the same excitement). Your smile and your laugh was contagious. I’m deeply sorry I missed your funeral and promise to visit soon.
